Stepping Up for Public Service

Stepping Up for Public Service

Yes, all elections have consequences, and yes, the stakes in a presidential election are always high. But in a year where more than 200,000 people have died from a pandemic mismanaged by the president of the United States, this year’s election is literally a matter of life and death.

“I will be doing everything I can to get (Joe Biden) elected,” says Stephanie Dube, who works as a custodian in the Desert Willow Treatment Center, a psychiatric hospital for youth in southern Nevada. “He knows how to work with others that have different views. I know he has worked hard and done some good things in his time in government. I'm hopeful for that.”

Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have refused to provide states, cities, towns and schools with the funding they need to keep essential public services and public service workers on the job. That means layoffs and furloughs for public service workers across the country.

That’s one reason why Dube plans to do everything she can between now and November to help put Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House. Luckily for her and thousands of her fellow members, AFSCME’s Virtual Field Offices make it easy.

Stepping Up for Public Service

Like everything else that has happened in 2020, volunteering for the election this year was bound to look different. With a pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 Americans already, knocking on doors is out of the question.

But social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference in this election. It doesn’t mean we won’t be going full steam ahead to get out the vote for the Biden-Harris ticket and other candidates who support AFSCME members and the work we do for our communities.

Our Virtual Field Offices include:

Voting Tools

Voting tools that make it simple to register to vote, check your voter registration status, or apply for an absentee ballot.

Phone Banking Tools

Phone banking tools because we know one-on-one conversations are the best way to get out the vote, and if we can’t knock on doors, picking up the phone is the next best thing.

Texting Tools

Texting tools that help you reach hundreds of voters with just a few clicks. You can have real conversations with fellow AFSCME members over text and tell them why it’s so important to vote - and the tool never shares your phone number.

“This is the fight of our life”
“This is the fight of our life”

AFSCME members across the country, like Dube, have been on the front lines of this pandemic from the days COVID-19 first hit our shores. They've treated patients, made sure certain kids learning from home are fed, and worked to prevent the spread of the virus.

They’ve also lived through the failures of Donald Trump to lead us through this crisis. AFSCME members have seen how we weren’t prepared with enough personal protective equipment and how the federal government failed to get a testing strategy in place.

It’s time for a president who stands with working people, one with a plan to fight this pandemic.

That’s why we need to break out all the stops to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
